Persian Rug Size Guide
Choosing the right size is the difference between a room that feels ordinary and one that feels pulled together. Read this before you choose your rug.
Living room
The rug should sit under the seating so at least the front legs of sofas and chairs rest on it — this reads as one unified, larger room. For a typical Iranian living room, 2×3m and 2.5×3.5m are the most common sizes, known in everyday conversation as "6-metri", "9-metri" and "12-metri".
Dining room
Under a dining table, the rug should extend about 60–70cm beyond the table's edge on every side — enough that chair legs stay on the rug even when pulled back from the table.
Bedroom
Choose a rug that extends past both sides of the bed, so it's underfoot the moment you step out — or use two runners, one on each side of the bed, instead of one large rug.
Hallway
For a hallway, choose a runner that leaves roughly 10–15cm of floor between the rug and each wall — close enough to feel intentional, not so wide it gets lost in the space.
One simple rule, every room
In every room, leave about 30–45cm of visible floor between the rug's edge and the walls. That margin lets the room breathe and frames the rug properly — not so small it gets lost, not so large it crowds the walls.
